May the joy of Christmas remain with you throughout 2022

It’s not over yet! We are still awaiting the three kings or the Maji to arrive with their gifts. This is known as Epiphany and begins on the 6th January The names of the kings are not mentioned in the reading in Matthew’s gospel however, they are known as Melchior, Casper and Balthazar. Talking of gifts, we received these thank you letters……………..

I recently received a lovely e mail from Steve Percival who is part of the chaplaincy team for the Mission to Seafarers. This is important voluntary work that not many know of. Steve told me that during the pandemic lots of ships bringing supplies from abroad have been anchored out at sea with personnel not able to come ashore or sail back to their home country. Some of the crew have not seen their families for 18 months or more. Worse still, a lot lost contracts and were not paid.

The lovely, warm-hearted ladies of Wilberfoss knitted woolly hats (lots of them) and these were taken out to the ships along with other gifts.  This is Abdul from Indonesia (bosun on MV Ocean Reliance) his ship is in Hull for a few months, undergoing maintenance. As you can see, he is very impressed with his woolly hat. Thank you, lovely knitters. If you want to know more or you would like the woolly hat pattern please go to: Woolly Hat Day 2019 | The Mission to Seafarers

“Thank you to each and every person who took the time to put aside clothing for our refugee children here at St Alban’s school.  Your generosity and kindness is hugely appreciated.  The children and families that are in need, have also asked to pass on their thanks.  I cannot express how humble, positive and grateful they are.  Many have left excellent jobs, homes and happy lives to suddenly find themselves in hotel rooms with just what they could bring with them in their hands.  Whilst also having the constant worry of loved ones many have had to leave behind.  One dad said to me the other day “You all care so much about our children, thank you so much” which I pass onto every single person who has helped – thank you all.  It is delightful to see the children also in school uniform and a special thank you goes to the member of the congregation whose generous donation has gone directly to fund that.  They certainly enjoy looking and feeling like members of the school community (and like to remind me and chase me up when they are still waiting for a jumper or bag to arrive!).”

Thank you all again and may you and your families have a wonderful Christmas.
